  • I believe that it all depends on how the dog is/was raised. I honestly believe that any dog can be good with kids if they are raised that way.

  • Honestly it really depends on the dogs temperament. I have a pit bull that I trust more with my kids than my beagle.

  • labs. I have a mini boston who thinks she is one of the kids. But my mom and brother both have pure bred labs. I trust both of them arounf my kids. The female herds them around the yard

  • I have always grown up around large breed dogs. Brittany Spaniels are said to be the most forgiving, we have one I dont recommend it since they are so active and can be a PITA (pain in the ass)they are also a true hunting dog so you can imagine how active they are. Labs are great but the truth is its not the breed is the individual dog

  • We have a husky and we have heard many times from vets and big time dog 'buffs' that huskies tend to be a dog to love children.

  • Corgi's are supposed to be great with kids, we have yet to get one, but that's what we will get.

  • I say that shih tzus are the best with kids. I do childcare out of my home and also breed my shih tzus and they are absolutely great with the kids and are hypoalergenic. My son will play with my dogs, pull their tails, and try and pick them up and they are so forgiving! All bigger dogs tend to knock over toddlers so Ive noticed, but do give very loving kiss baths!

  • It VERY much depends more on the temperment and training of the individual dog rather than the breed. In general though medium sized dogs tend to do better than small dogs (which tend to be skiddish or tempermental) or big dogs (which tend to forget their size when playing with the kids).

We have an American Pit Bull Terrier who is wonderful with our daughter. My parents have a lab who is also wonderful with her and a Silky Terrier who isn't allowed to play with her. We havn't introduced her to their Alaskan Malamute yet, he thinks he is 5lbs, not 150lbs.
