How old should your baby be to go on a road trip?

My sister was born on the way down to visiting her parents. You may want a scedule established. Also the conditions are a factor. If it's just you and the baby a cell phone w/ charger is a must along w/ a credit card and a road emergancy kit. Be prepared to stop every 2 hours for diapers and feeding. When we went from WI to FL we chose the plane vs. roadtrip because we felt it was worth the cost to shorten the time and lessen the stress.

The baby might cry while going through the mountains because of their ears popping. Make sure to stop and breastfeed through those parts especially. If your baby takes a pacifier, that will provide some relief too. I think the age is up to you...but be prepared with tylenol and such in case the baby comes down with anything on the trip.

ReneeK3 is right. Also make sure none of the people you are visiting are sick or have the flu.

My pedi told us to wait until the baby was 4 months old. He said her immune system would be good and strong and she'd be more on a regular sleeping schedule that can more easily be maintained. There's nothing worse than staying at a family member's house with a screaming baby at 2AM.
