I would like to know your thoughts on the flu shot for babies. My son is 9 months and I'm undecided on getting him the flu shot. My husband who gets them, used to get sick everytime he got one. I"m nervous to let my son have one. Wouldn't he have the flu symptoms?

The Amer. Academy of Pediatrics recommends that anyone over 6 mos. of age be vaccinated for the flu. http://www.aap.org/advocacy/releases/sept08flu.htm My children are 8, 6 and 4, get vaccinated yearly and have never gotten anything more than a cold. Chemicals are not used in the vaccine. There is no threat of mercury or thimersoral poisoning. They use the dead flu virus. You can't get sick from the virus in the shot. You aren't protected for about two weeks after you recieve it, and can still get colds and other sicknesses in the meantime. That is why it's best to get vaccinated early. If you live in an area that gets colder weather in the fall and winter, or if your child is in school, daycare setting or with other children, it is strongly recommended. By vaccinating you are doing yourself, them and other children and teachers a great service by protecting them from a potentially fatal but common illness.

We do not vaccinate for anything but I am strongly against the flu shot more than the others... It's a waist! You are injecting you kids with needless chemicals to protect them? That doesn't really make sense... Most decent scientists or doctors will tell you that it's healthier to get the flu than to get the vaccine... Your immune system will develop faster and stronger if it is actually faced with disease once in a while... Besides the Flu vaccine only protects against a minor amount of flu strands out their...
And to the lady who's parents get the vaccine... Your parents aren't 9 months old!
