Is it normal to have bleeding after sexual intercourse when you're pregnant?

I'm in my 36th week and just had sex for the first time in over 2 weeks with my husband. When we turned on the light there was bright red blood all over him, me, and the bed. I'm not in pain. It has been almost an hour and I am still bleeding not heavy but like a med. period. I couple of min. ago a dark red blood clot looking thing came out of me about 3-4 inches long. I called my doc. and left a message. Waiting for him to call me back.

What should i do.

I don't live near a hospital.

  • Call the labor and delivery at the hospital you would be having the baby at and see what they think you need to do. Call right now! Hope everything is OK!

  • That doesn't sound good.. I wouldn't wait for the Dr. to call back.. If you can get to a clinic or anywhere that can take a look at you, the sooner the better. Regardless of anything, better safe than sorry. I hope everything works out for you, good luck hun!

  • at least call the local hospital and ask the doc/nurse on duty. I'd say go to the hospital just to be sure but if you don't want to go for no reason, at least call.

    my 3rd baby, the contractions weren't really painful at all, braxton hicks were worse. She was born at 36w2d. Sex helped bring her earlier than planned.

  • I called my doctor again and he has not called back. I called my mother in law and she calmed me down. I feel much better. She said if the bleeding stops then I'll be fine (the bleeding seems to have stopped). I just need to rest with my feet up. If the bleeding starts back up then go to the hospital right away. Thank you eveyone for responding to my post! I'm still to nervous to sleep but I feel much better.

  • You still didnt go to the hospital/DR because of it? Woman you are crazy. :-/ Or is your mother-in-law a doctor?
