Not shampoo at all? Are you kidding me? Some kids (me neighbor for example) have cradle cap for over a year...I am sorry, lol, but not shampoo'ing is not going to help it go away. It is caused by an imbalance of hormones, and has nothing to do with shampoo...I actually agree with Beckysue22, It seems to get better if I shampoo more (around 3 or 4 times a week).
Anyways, same as JessTorres , my pediatrician said that if it gets really bad that I could use Selsen Blue on it until it goes away (but its not baby shampoo, so be really careful not to get it in their face).
But as far as it scaring you...don't worry! It is perfectly normal, and it will go away on its own. It will not hurt the baby, and in a worst case scenario, it may itch if it starts to get real bad.
