How much formula versus solid food should I feed my baby?

do you/did you give your eighth month old in an average day? Could you maybe answer with what kind of schedule/meals it was? I am not asking because I don't know what I am doing, but would like a comparison.

  • your a proud person aren't you....

I get my daughter up she is 9m old and give her whatever im giving my 2yr old like if its pancakes i make her one just without syrup.

Then at lunch i make her a grilled cheese or something simple that she can feed herself. and some baby puff things.

then for dinner i make her one of the graduate meals and she eats the hole thing!!!

she get a bottle of 6oz when she takes her naps 2 of them during the day and at bed time.

  • I'm sorry, I really didn't mean to sound proud like that. I just read a lot of mean comments about "should you know this already" on other questions.

  • My son is EBF. He is 9.5 months old. At 8 months old he got his first tooth and his sleeping schedule totally changed....went to bed at 8pm slept to 7am eat again, slept until 10 pm. Ate again. Up and playing for 2 hours. Ate at 12 noon and then 2 hour nap. wake up eat. Up for 2 1.5 hours eat and another nap. Eat again at 5:30. bath at 7-read book eat/sleep at 8.

I agree with a PP. I get shit all the time about different things.

PS i did not see anything wrong w/ your question.

  • My son is 8 months old and I wanted to know the same thing!! Not because I really care. I know that my son is being fed I just was wondering if it was too much. He's not fat but dang he likes his solid foods ALOT! lol

On average he eats about 8 bottles a day of formula. 6-8 ozs each time depending on how hungry.

This is what I was worried about...... Solids.... for lunch he eats about 6 ozs of baby food AND a bottle afterward and at dinner he does the same thing. Before bed he gets an oatmeal/applesauce mix that's about 8 ozs worth AND an 8 oz bottle. That seems like ALOT of food to me!

This is what you should be worried about not the solids...he sholdn't have more than about 30oz a day of formula!

  • Its overfeeding, its too much food, yes if you aren't breastfeeding formula is the most important thing for children under a year but you can still overfeed it. Just like any food can be overeatten. Fruits and veggies are good for adults but if you ate WAY over the normal amount of food it would be bad. A normal adults diet should be between 1500-2000 calories a day for the average person, eatting 4000 a day would be too much even if it was food that was good for you. Same thing for babies 30 oz of formula is how much is needed a day giving WAY over that is overfeeding.

  • hmm.... apparently my son burns off calories faster or something because he's not fat and has actually cut back on his formula intake dramatically. Oh well, that being said, thank you for the website and the input. I thought that seemed like a lot of food. Thanks Tabi. I'm a first time mommy don't think I'm stupid for not knowing......
