When will you get your daughter her first bra?

i have a ten year old daughter who is 5th grade. When are you moms having your daughters start to shave??? or what about wearing a training bra??? My daughter has not brought up the issue, but i don't want others to start saying something to her. Neither of her 2 good friends shave yet or wear a training bra.

Please share any input you may have. Thanks! :)

  • The bra depends on the size of her chest. I would start the bra at 11 and shaving at 12

  • I started shaving my legs at ten behind my parents' backs. I had leg hair at eight...it was very embarrassing and emotionally scarring for me, I honestly believe that my puberty issues are one of the many reasons I had problems with boys in middle and high school. I think I was wearing a bra when I was ten as well.

  • I think a training bra would be good now, to get her used to it. I started developing at 8. I started shaving my legs at 10. I don't remember about my underarms.

  • I have a 10 year old, and on her tenth b-day I gave her a box with training bras and a book by American Girl called, The caring and Keeping of You. It is a great book and I notice her reading it every now and then. Sometimes she wants to wear them and then there are times she could care less. I think the more she develops the more interested she will be. As for shaving, I remember being made fun of when I was in 6th grade, I want to spare my daughter from this. I am thinking about letting her try Veet or a Nair for sensitive skin before she has to tackle shaving. Shaving can be dagerous, and I would like to put off razor usage until at least summer 2009

  • My daughter is 8 and wearing a training bra already (shes in premature puberty) and i will probably let her start shaving at 12 or thirteen.

  • my oldest girl is now 13 (almost 14). I intoduced her to a training bra at 11 and even then she didnt really need it, i did it more so she could get the feel of a bra. As for shaving I remember in 6th grs-summer b4 7th grade I got teased brutally! These girls were just awful to me up until the point I was in tears and beggin my mother to let me shave! She was still telling me it wasnt that bad or dark enough to shave and telling me once i start i cant stop, the hair grows back darker & thincker..blahblahblah. It was just awful for me & I vowed to never let my dtr have 2 go through anything like that. Well Abby began using Nair/Veet her legs& under arms at 12 (she needed to).
The training bra depends on how developed a girl is & as 4 shaving I would say it depends on how dark & thick the hair is, remember once she starts shaving she cant stop, it grows back thicker & darker.

  • As soon as they have "buds" they will show through shirts so it's then that they really need to start wearing a bra. When she expresses an interest in shaving or 13 or 14 if her legs are dark hair and look unattractive for what she is wearing, suggest it. If she has light leg hair or doesn't want to and your aren't thinking it looks awful, let her go without it until she wants to. The bra isn't optional though.

  • I'd say a bra when she starts showing or feels self concious, I was in 4th grade when I wanted to start wearing one,,,and I was allowed to start shaving my legs at 12, and it was from mean girls teasing,,,,and I would like to emphasize how damaging mean kids can be to other kids,,,like above mentioned, it can be scaring...I remember it like it was recently.
