  • Wow. That's early for cereal. We didn't start cereal until our baby was 4 months old. Then we didn't start her on baby food until she was 6 months old. We started her (and her older sisters) on veggies first so that they didn't get a taste for the sweets before they learned to like the not-so-sweet foods. The 12-year-old twins LOVE veggies and so does my almost 2-year-old.

  • The earlier you start regular food the higher incidence of food allergies. I would wait. My girls didn't start regular food until well after six months. Just my opinion but there is evidence that the allergy connection is true. Check out Mothering.com, a great resource for well informed parenting.

  • the cereal is perfect - it will keep her full longer and fill her up faster - after a couple months she will get hungry more often again (its a pattern that continues throught childhood as they grow and their tummies get bigger) - so when the cereal doesnt fill her up any more start her on baby food.
**try one baby food at a time and give it to her for about a week -durring this time dont give her any other new foods- this will help you know what foods (if any) give her allergic reactions. ... if you are giving her many types of foods you wont be able to tell which one messes her up.

  • ok for all the mommys thats shocked about early feeding lol...both my kids had rice cereal and oatmeal cereal at 2months of age because they were always so hungry...my son eats 6oz every 2 hrs still but the oatmeal has helped alot...hes fuller and not wanting to eat much...he eats banannas all the time and poops everyday so that cant be true apples have natural laxative in them ive heard so dont know if that causes consitpation now rice cereal can cause constipation for sure...thats why i switched to oatmeal and he does fabolous with it...try that plus its filling and easier on their tummys...by the way i started solid on him already hes almost 5months he hasnt tried vegs yet but hes tried all the fruits just be carerful with allergies

  • That is about the age I started both of my daughters on baby food. Their pediatrician recommended that I do, he is a little bit old school but he is great. At first I would mix about half a jar in with the cereal, giving it to them once a day so that their body could get used to used and not get constipated, and them work their way up from there. Make sure you wait a couple of day in between each new food so that if there is an allergic reaction you will know what food caused it. Good Luck.

  • start her on w/e you want as long as theres no chunky pieces at all. But, why complicate things with food? Wait til shes ready. When she starts reaching for your plate or showing interest in your food alot, let her try some.

  • I started my daughter on cereal at 4 months, I was told to every week or two add a new food, starting with rice cereal, then oatmeal cereal, then multigrain cereal, then veggies, then fruits.

  • Talk to your peditrician and go with one fruit at a time to make sure she can tolerate each one. I started cereal with breast milk (rice) 1st at 4 months.

  • 4 months is when my ped. told me to start my son on cereal. Both apples and bananas constipate, I read that in a parenting magazine. I started my son on veggies, carrots to be exact. He loves all of them so far. You're supposed to wait till6 months to give them baby food, but I cheated and started at 5. The only problem I had was he would get gas. Nothing that bothered him, but he stunk up the house a lot :) I would say get threw each type of cereal first. Then you can even try the cereal with fruit in it. Once you've done that go ahead and try the foods.

  • Oh and by the way, 3 months is normal for a baby to have a growth spurt, at which time they will want to eat a lot more. My son started eating 6oz every 2 hours at that time, and cereal mad no difference.
