Is 12 weeks long enough for maternity leave?

I am 24 weeks pregnant and working. Since this is my first pregnancy/baby, I am wondering if taking 12 weeks is enough.
Can you tell me your experiences?

  • When my first dd was born I took off the first yr w/ her. I'm staying home my baby now and do plan to do the same as w/ my first. I would hate to think of leaving my baby so little.

  • I went back to work part-time, but it really felt soon, after my first was born. When I had my second I didn't go back to work - I'm a SAHM now.

  • I know that 8 weeks was definitely not enough for me and I did take 12 weeks. My temp disability insurance cut off at 12 weeks so I took my happy behind back to work and I was fine. That being said, I know people that went back after 2 weeks. I think that it depends on how well you feel and that you may need to play it by ear. If you can afford to take off more than 12 weeks, then I would. My son is 4 months old and if I could be home with him all day, I would love it. Enjoy your new baby and don't forget to let us know when he comes.

  • It depends entirely on you. Every woman is different.
I will warn you - do NOT plan on getting any projects done while you are home. Not a single thing. Plan on spending the time resting and enjoying your baby.

  • This is a personal question that may change after you have the baby. I thought that I would go back but I did not go back until after I had two more kids.

    Good luck!
