How would you survive on $100 a week?

This is for a family of 2, me and my child. This includes gas, groceries. Everything other the bills. Just curious. I see people saying, we only will have (example 500-700 for the next to weeks, I dont' know how we'll do it. I would be so happy to have that much!

  • Just because there is $100 per week, after the bills, does not mean that it will be an automatic qualification for food stamps, welfare, etc. The OP has stated that is what she has after the bills are paid. As I already stated I only have $100-150 per week after our bills for my family of 4 plus pets! It has to buy food, toiletries, pet care, clothing, cleaning supplies. It can be done! I've been doing it for the last 6 years. Yes recently it's been harder to do then it was earlier, but it still can be done. Some of the cleaners I make myself: with water, vinegar, bleach, salt, and baking soda. Those things can easily be bought for only $5 PER month. It's easy to say well just go get food stamps, etc: however we make WAY TO MUCH to qualify for food stamps, welfare, etc.

  • If I had too I sure could. You did say that that was just for food and gas. Not mortgage right.

  • I did, briefly, and that's for me and my 2 kids. If it's only temporary, you could do it, with a little forethought and planning. As a permanent situation...I don't know. Plan your meals, and plan them to be ones that are cheap and give you leftovers to provide another meal. Condense all errands and car trips into one trip, with the route planned out for the least amount of driving. Good luck!

  • This is not temporary. And the $100 is after my rent/utilities, car and phone is paid. THe most I ever have is $170 a week.

  • I am sure you can do it! It would definitely be tough but with a little ingenuity I am sure it can be done. But hopefully would only have to be temporary.

  • After rent/utilities and all the other bills I have about $150 a week.... sometimes we have only $100.

That $100-150, after the bills, I have per week has to pay for food, gas for the cars, and anything else we may want or need: b-day presents, going places: (i.e. apple orchard, pumpkin patch, movies, etc) We are a family of 4 and I make it work, because I have to make it work.

It means meal planning, using and buy things that can stretch for many meals, eating lots of home made veggie soups and stews that require very little meat, etc.....
