  • When he is tall enough to try climbing out of his crib he should be moved to a toddler bed for his own safety. He is probably big enough now for one.

  • There is no rush. Many parents seem to feel that putting their toddler in a bed is a right-of-passage, somehow makes their toddler into a "big kid". It doesn't.

If you are concerned that he will climb out and get hurt, get a crib tent.

If he gets out of his toddler bed in the middle of the night (and he will), you will have no idea of what he is doing, no way to prevent him from getting hurt.

If you decide to put him in a bed, baby proof his room like you have never baby proofed before. Secure all the furniture - they will be toddler mountains perfect for climbing at 2am. Put a lock on the closet door. Remove all hard toys. Put a lock or baby gate on the door to keep him in his room unless you know he can't possibly get in trouble in the kitchen by himself at 4am.

  • I don't know if there is a time you should do it...but my son just turned one and was just not sleeping well in his crib so we got the rails for a twin bed and put them on ..i put him in for a nap to see how he did and he has been sleeping in it ever since..that was almost 2 mths ago..he sleeps much better because he has more room and can roll around with out getting up against the side so fast! We used a twin bed..i think toddler beds use crib mattresses so it makes more sence to use a bigger bed and you won't have to buy another one so soon! Just my suggestion! Good luck!

  • with my son, i thought he was old enough at 2yrs old..and so i converted his crib into a toddler bed, well he wasnt ready..he cried soo much and would not stay in his bed..i guess he felt very secure in his crib with the walls up...so then we moved and we had him in his crib..one night he climbed out(good thing i caught it in time)so then i ordered him a new cars toddler bed set and he loved it..he thought it was the coolest thing ever and had no problems after that..it was a few months after trying the first time..hope that might help u...
