  • They dont recommend it due to the risk of infection and also the skin elasticity and your blood flow are all off during pregnancy. I would hold off and wait till after you have the baby.

  • Yeah I would wait too. There is usually swelling and water weight gain during pregnancy. It could come out looking different after the baby! And, just as a precaution, I would't want to take the chance of getting infected, or possible dirty needle etc. Not saying the place you would go to is dirty but these are all chances you take when getting a tattoo.

  • I have tattoos and haven't heard anything negative about getting a tattoo during pregnancy. If the above answerers had done some research they would know that in order for ANY tattoo shop to run these days they have to pass health inspections and use only needles sterilized by autoclave and only use the needles once. If you're worried about infection just be sure to follow all the aftercare instructions given after tattooing. Also bring some water or Gatorade with you because you actually lose some electrolytes when you get a tattoo.
    Good Luck!

  • The shop I go to won't tattoo you if you're pregnant. It could cause fetal stress. Please wait till you have the baby, it won't be that long :)

  • Same as Prettyrayray, all the shops in my area refuse to both tattoo you AND pierce you if you are pregnant due to the risk of stress to the baby.

  • It could cause a vasovagal response, that's why most shops will not pierce or tattoo you while pregnant... plus, even though there are health requirements for cleanliness, we have all heard of super bacteria slipping through. Manicure/pedicure salons have to fight with this as well, but they aren't dealing with potentially deadly infections. Better to wait.
