How far along were you when you set up the nursery?

I'm 19 weeks pregnant and hopefully find out the sex of the baby Thursday. When should I start preparing a room for my baby? I originally thought my boyfriend and I were going to get a place together, but that doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon. Should I not wait for him to make up his mind and set up a nursery at my parents place? When did everyone else start setting up their babies' rooms?

  • Well honestly; I think you need to purchase furniture early; in case the pieces are back ordered etc. purchase linens as soon as you can....but try and leave the decorating until like 30-32 weeks. It is the last and most fun thing to do before the birth. My only suggestion is to wait until about 35-36 weeks and do a belly cast; you can paint it and hang it in the baby's room as well. It is my most favorite thing I have ever done!

  • if you are not sure about moving in together; just do it at your parents for now; and keep it minimal so if you do move, you wont feel bad for painting the walls bright red; or putting up a bunch of wall decor :) GL!

  • I know it's all so exciting and you just want to get everything done, but trust me you'll NEED something to do for those last three months. I'd wait as long as possible to set up your babies room. You'll start to feel more anxious than ever and have nothing to do if the room's finished.
You'll find yourself folding the same clothes over and over haha.

  • Girl, if you have the energy, go right on and set it up. I worked two jobs until I went into labor and he was early. I had the furniture set up but it was not even arraigned. I never had any energy left to care. I figured I would get it done one day, and I did. And part of me did not want to have it all together and not have a baby to bring home to it. I had been through one miscarriage and know that things do not always go as planed for delivery. I must have known something was going to happen, my first did end up in the NICU, but thankfully I did not have to leave the hospital without him.  If you have nothing beyond normal worries, set things up, it takes a while to get your energy back once baby is here.  Have FUN!

  • Remember sonograms aren't 100%.... I would try to stick to neutral things at this point. Paint babys room no later than 28 weeks... anything else is up to you. I enjoyed having my baby's room set up at around 20 weeks, just so I could hang out in there, and also its a great place to put baby's gifts.Good luck girl :)

  • Yeah, I couldn't wait to set up the baby's room, but until we had our baby shower (32 weeks) I didn't have a whole lot to put in there, so I had to wait. I did do the painting as soon as I knew which bedding we were getting.

  • if u think u still might be moving, maybe put it off a little while until u know. i usually say its never too early to prepare stuff for the baby and its nice to have their room done early but if ur still hoping to move in with ur boyfriend that might be better than parents, but its not too early to start buying stuff for the baby, especially once u find out what it is, u will want to buy every pink or blue outfit in sight!
