3 Bumps

Which item do you wish you had brought to the hospital?

I'm making a list so that I can start getting prepared for when "it's time". Of course there are lists telling you to bring a camera and baby clothes, but I want to know what you ladies found that you REALLY wanted while pregnant but were never told to bring or forgot.

Let me know!

  • I would only suggest toothbrush/toothpaste (the hospital supplises it but its of crappy quality), about 3 newborn diapers and a small thing of wipes. (the hospital supplies diapers and wipes so dont waste your money by bringing enough for your whole stay) a comfy outfut for you to go home in. Just a weather approprate shirt and some sweats and a nursing bra. The hospital will give you mesh undies (disposable) so dont bring your own. They will get runined. If your feet get cold easily like mine a pair of socks or slippers. A brush and your own shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Though they supply body wash and shampoo they do not supply conditioner (usually) and the quality sucks. Probably a hair tie too:) And the ones you listed are VERY important in my books. And just an FYI try and get a lot of good face pics. My DD always had her head turned and I did not get a lot of her face and I regret it:(

  • I'm still packing for my first...but it would probably be a good idea to take something to keep you busy, like a handheld gaming device (Gameboy or PSP yanno) or a book or a stack of magazines. You never know how long you'll be there in total, so who knows how bored you'll get :P The previous poster has a great list! Also, if you want to be totally sure of what your hospital provides, you could call them before hand or take the hospital tour and ask them there. God forbid they don't give you something and you forgot to bring it and someone has to run out in the middle of the day or night to buy it :(

  • Dont overdo it... I didnt't even open my large bag. I only NEEDED camera, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, razor, hairbrush, hair ties, comfy socks, and my own pillow... Everything else the hospital will give you. As far as bringing something to occupy yourself... you can, but you probably wont get any real down time, and if you do, you will want to sleep :).

P.S. if you will bring a "coming home" outfit for baby... make sure its a comfy one, because I didnt even keep my baby girls on her, she looked uncomfortable.

    Good luck girl!

  • Baby wipes!! The ones that the hospital supplies are not normal wipes...they are almost like dryer sheets that you have to wet and then wipe the baby. It is really gross. They are so thin...yuck. "LovinEveryDay" had some good tips. I went to a birthing class and they had a list for us in the book, and I added a few things to it. Just remember some change for vending machines for your hubby or partner. Definitely anything you use on a daily basis. Go thru your whole day and make a list of things you use everyday. That should help! And when you are done at t he hospital, take all the diapers in the little cart home with you!!!! I forgot to do that...my sister got like 25 diapers when she left the hospital lol

  • Oh and I woud also advise you to get a picture of the doctor with the baby. I also forgot to do that and I regret it. Have something there so the doctor and nurses can sign a little certificate. I did have that and I'm so thankful I did :o)

  • Oh my gosh, this is the last one lol Even if you go full term with your pregnancy, "newborn" sizes will still be HUGE. I reccomend getting a few "preemie" outfits, especially one to bring the baby home in. My son was 7 lbs 8.5 oz and newborn sizes were huge for weeks....

  • I highly suggest your own underwear and pads because that mesh thing they give you is one size fits all and believe me it's just baggy and nasty if you're a small size! Plus the pads they give you are gross too, I just bought some extra super Always and was more comfortable like that. Your underwear won't get ruined if you get the ones with the flaps on the sides. Brought some jammies so I didn't have to wear the gown the whole time either. You'll also need an outfit for the baby to come home in, and a carseat.

  • Small bottles of shampoo, lotion, shower gel, etc. The hospital stuff is TERRIBLE!! A few pairs of underwear, and if you're planning on nursing, take a nursing bra and some bra pads although you may not need those right away, since your milk probably won't come in until you come home. Also, if you're planning on breastfeeding, take some lanolin cream to start using it right away when the baby nurses for the first time,it'll help you from getting sore. Take a nightgown or PJ's because you'll be more comfortable in your own stuff than the hospital gowns. Take an outfit for you to wear home, something stretchy and comfortable, like a sweatsuit and an outfit for the baby to wear for the nursery pics and come home in ( same outfit). Like someone else said, make sure you take ALL the free stuff home that's in the cart, diapers, pads, cream, whatever, even if you don't use it, you'll still have it.

  • cont. Also, toothpaste, toothbrush, hairbrush, hairdryer and if you think you might need it, makeup. I didn't take makeup with me because I didn't care what I looked like, but some women like to put makeup on for pictures and if it makes you feel better, go for it!!
