  • I believe that spanking a child shows them that you are in charge.. it does not hurt a child to be a spanked. I was spanked as a child when I needed it. I learned to respect my parents and know that if I did something out of line, I would be punished. I spanked my girls when they needed it. My children knew I meant business and not to argue with me. I see alot of moms being walked all over because they counted instead of just spanking the child... I don't believe that a child has a right to have a choice in the punisment... that is the parent's responsibility. Some of the parents these days are just plain lazy and it's just too easy to let it go... I was very consistant in my discipline methods... I am thankful for the way I raised my girls.. Do they go around hitting anyone and everyone.. No, not a chance. Never once have they ever been violent... It's all in the way you teach a child.

  • How does it help them in the long run? No. Hitting kids teaches them that hitting is okay.

  • I think learning to be obedient when needed helps them in the long run, and spanking is a tool to accomplish that goal.

  • Yes and no. I've used spanking from time to time when my kids were youner. They're now 6, 9 & 10 and we've gotten away from it because it was my son's behavioral counselor that pointed out that by spanking, we are sending mixed messages that it's ok to hit on one hand and then we tell them not to hit siblings or others, so they're confused.

  • We spanked our kids when they were younger. Now that they are older, we don't have to spank them...Spare the rod-spoil the child.

  • Absolutely not.
I'm a teacher and obviously don't do any sort of physical discipline in my classes... yet I can totally control a class of 15+ children at once.
If you set your expectations, teach the child how to behave, and show respect for your child as a person... it'll work out.
