Which solid foods should I start my baby on?

My son is 5.5 months old I plan to start on solids very soon. But I am a little at loss as to what to start with or how. Does anyone have any tips?

  • Cereal first. Then start adding things like apples, bananas, peas, so on. Make sure you have a week inbetween each new food to watch for any signs of problems.

  • Do rice cereal first..it is the easiest for the babies tummies to handle. Read directions on box and do that for a week to make sure he is not allergic. Then increase and add a fruit like bannana's for a week and so on.

  • I started with rice cereal with a little soy formula mixed in. then we tried oatmeal and alternated between the 2. by 6 months or so he started eating vegetables. Once I established that he liked veggies, then I gave him fruit. It's pretty cool, all the ways you can mix and match his food, just as long as you've tried those things on their own first. More chewable foods came around the 8 month period i believe.

  • I leanred in a college course, back in the day....that veggies should be introduced first when it comes to fruits and veggies. So they don't favor the sweetness of fruits right off the bat. We will be starting with veggies in 4 more short weeks. As well as adding the rice cereal to formula, can mix rice cereal to baby food. Also when I was a nanny, I mixed baby food, oatmeal or rice cereal, and tofu for the 9 month old. I think when the time is right to introduce tofu, I will mix the 3 as I had learned from that mother then.

  • DL hated cereal. I jumped right in with Carrots. Start with veggies, then fruits, then meats. BE sure to watch for all allergic symptoms
