How can I deal with a child who throws things?

i feel really stupid for asking this but my son is 20 months and throws EVERYTHING. He just picks up a toy and throws it at the tv or me or at the rest of the family. I do tell him its not nice and put him in time out and make him say hes sorry and give hugs and kisses but my question is will he ever grow out of this, and has anyone else been through this lol....thanks

  • Yep, and then he will do something new for you. Just hope it's not worse than throwing things. It's all a part of growing up. Have fun mommy! Hugs to you and your little one!

  • I think it is great that he gives hugs and kisses and says sorry! I have to "make" my 2.5 yo say sorry. He went threw a throwing stage about the same age as yours. LOTS of hugs!

  • Yep he'll out grow it. Be consistant in your discipline and make him know that this kind of behavior is unacceptable. Take all the toys away if you have to until he learns toys are for playing not throwing!

  • My son is 14 months old. When he throws toys, i take whatever toy he threw and I put it up out of his reach for a while. It makes him mad and he fusses, but so far it is working out okay.

  • well, my 18 month old daughter is also a thrower when her tantrum gets started. she just started the horrible scream, stomping throwing like a few days ago and honestly, it really sucks! my older boys 13, 8 yrs. never acted this mad and went to such extremes, is it attention, frustration or stubborn genes of having her way?

  • It's rough, because my 18mo toddler is going through the throwing phase too. I have a 2 month old and without warning he's thrown toys and balls at him. I get SO UPSET, but I have to remind myself every time, that he doesn't understand that he's hurting him. I think he is trying to just play with his little brother..

  • I have the same problem with my 3 yr old girl. She is so hyper all the time. She also has an 11 yr old sister and my 3yr. old hits her all the time. I really don't know what to do anymore with my 3-yr old.
