  • when i had my son, the doc had to tell me i was in labor...i went for a check up and he checked me and told me i was dialated to 4 1/2 and i was in labor....2 hrs later, my son was born...i had an epidural, but it was done about 15 mins before my son was born, so it didnt really take effect until right when he was born...i dont remember it being incredibly bad, but i have heard horror stories!

  • you will hear horror stories, no doubt. I made a point to tell everyone I didn't want to hear them. I wanted to go in thinking positive. It depends on how much pain you can tolerate and your state of mind. I was able to block out a lot of my pain. I just concentrated on all the wonders that were happening. My water broke at 2:35am....got my epidural at 9am....started pushing at 1pm and he was born at 4:05pm(took so long b.c he has a big head!)...I loved it!

  • I went into labor expecting the worst and hoping for the best, and honestly, I think the stuff after labor (stitching, healing, etc.) hurts a hell of a lot more than the labor.... I was induced and my labor was 5 hours from start to finish and I pushed for 10 minutes.... I did not have an epidural, and I actually had to ask when his head came out because I couldn't believe that was what it was, it didn't really hurt just pressure (granted I was numb from having an episiotomy)... I dilated very quickly, and I think the worst part was the time from 8-10 cm. when I started wanting to push with every contraction and wasn't allowed.... of course, it is different for everybody so who knows what yours will be like.... good luck just don't worry, either way you will have a baby!

  • Yes, labor hurts A LOT. Most women go into labor & have their babies the same day. It's different for everyone. In my experience, the contractions were the worst part b/c there was NOTHING I could do. When I was pushing, it hurt A LOT, but I was more in control, so I was able to focus on the pushing instead of the pain.

  • I had my second baby naturally. I agree with crazysocks--the contractions are the worst! Once you actually start pushing, it's not so bad because you can finally focus on doing something.

  • No single labor is the same as another so it's hard to say. For me, all 3 of my labors (from the time I was admitted to the hospital until the time I gave birth) were 5 hours. Did they hurt? YES! But thankfully for me it was quick!

  • Just like everyone said, it will be different. I know when I was pregnant and asked that question, I wasn't necessarily looking for "horror stories" but wanted to know what I might be in for. The closest thing I can think of to describe how it was for me (and keep in mind I have a super-LOW tolerance for pain) it feels like menstral cramps from HELL. They get worse with every child I am told, and at least in my case it happened that way. When I was in labor with my second, it litterally felt like this massive hand had reached through my belly button and had my uterus in it's grip and it was trying to pull it out of my body. Not trying to make it sound horrible cause you might have yours and not have a problem at all. But that is the best way for me to describe how it felt. The epidural (I had THREE) and none of them took. I am a firm believer of the drugs! LOL

  • EVERY WOMEN IS DIFFERENT. I WAS IN LABOR FOR THREE HOURS. THE ONLY THING THAT HURT ABOUT IT... WHICH REALLY DIDNT HURT BUT FELT MORE LIKE UNCOMFORTABLE WAS THE CONTRACTIONS;. BUT GOOD LUCK AND DONT BELIEVE ALL THE HORROR STORIES, THERE ARE THE FEW PPL WHO HAVE HAD A SCARY EXPERIANCE BUT NOT EVERY WOMEN GOES THROUGH THAT... I AM SCARED ABOUT MY LABOR AGAIN! LOL. IM DUE ON OCT 4TH, AND I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THE LABOR I HAD WIT MY SON IS NOT GONNA BE THE SAME I HAVE WIT MY DAUGHTER. LOL.
