Which is easier: learning to knit or learning to crochet?

I am considering starting to learn either crocheting or knitting... which one do you think is easier to learn?

  • In my experience, knitting has been much easier. I tried to learn to crochet as a child and never could get the hang of it. I taught myself to knit about 3 years ago from a CD I bought at Jo-Ann's. Since then, I've tried to teach myself to crochet from a similar CD and still haven't managed. I have heard many say that crochet is easier, but I haven't found it to be true. I prefer the look of knitted things as it is, so haven't felt a huge rush to learn crochet at this point.

  • I think crochet is a lot easier to learn but knitting can be very rewarding. I like to work on different patterns and different yarns.

If you look at a couple of videos, you might get an idea of which one might be easier and more fun for you. Go to youtube and search the word "crochet" to watch a basic demonstration (and also "how to knit")

  • Crochet :) I actually just made a baby blanket today in a couple hours for a premie. Knitting takes too much time for me, lol.

  • I wondered the same thing. I ended up going buying the supplies for both.. Really its an unexpensive hobby to try out.. I think I spent $12 on the needles, yarn & 2 cheap "learn how to" books from Wal-Mart.. Everyone is diffrent. we all work with out hands diffrently. You just gotta try them both out.
Personally, after buying the supplies, learning from the book, watching YouTube.com for hours, and alot of frustration, I learned the best way to learn this is directly from another person! So maybe you should look around family/friends/hobby stores/ect to see where you may be able to find someone who will help or a class..
