  • I started my baby on first foods a 4 months and contiuned until he was 6 months... I then switched to 2nd foods and then he mastered that and now at 9 months he's eating 3rd foods. If he or she has mastered 1st foods then I would start 2nd foods

  • Some of the 3rd foods jars say from about 8mths and usually the 2nd foods may start at 5-6mths. I'd google it or look up some baby websites

  • I've heard that your supposed to start them on 2nd foods after they can sit up by themselves, that's what I did with my baby, and then when she starts crawling move up to 3rd foods...that's what her doc said to do, also the Gerber newsletter...they don't give a specific age but rather what the baby is doing at the time, {supported sitter: 1st foods, sits up on their own: 2nd foods and juices, crawling: 3rd foods, so that's what I've been doing with my little girl, and she's been doing great with it...

  • I started at 6 months because I read the jar at the store and that's what it said. Usually if you read that kind of stuff it will tell you the age or what they should be doing (ie sitting, crawling, etc).

  • My doctor said Stage 1 was 6-7 months, Stage 2 is 7-8 months and Stage 3 was 9+

  • It really doesn't matter as long as your baby can eat it and doesn't gag. I started off with homemade baby food for my first and it was thicker and lumpier than any of the jarred baby food. Some of the stage 3 foods are as thin as the stage 1 foods, I really don't see the difference in most of them. I didn't want to bother with homemade food with my second so I started her out on stage 2 at 5 months and she did fine. Just try a jar of 2nd food and see how she does, if she doesn't gag then it's fine.
