How do you baby-proof cabinets?

ok baby proofing time. What are some good suggestions for cabinet proofing ? We bought some of the latch ones that you install and they were crap and impossible to install! Has anyone tried the magnestic ones and what are your opinions of it?? Help us!

  • never used the magnetic ones, but kind-of rigged up a half-assed plastic latch witha hair-tie thing. i just keep a eye on my baby, that's my best advice. Don't expect anything else to do the pasrenting for you. Also, i have one cabinet that I set up just for him, it's full of plastics and tuperware type stuff so since he knows its there he tends to go for it when we're in the kitchen. I also give him spatulas and measuring cups or anything he like to shake or bang around and is still safe :)

  • DH put the plastic latches on our cabinets & drawers that DD can reach. We still had/have problems with her getting them open sometimes. The ones she can open I emptied & let her play with. However we have gates up to keep her from the main kitchen area.

  • We have the latch things. DH installed the first couple, incorrectly, and then wondered why they didn't work, so I did it myself and they work. Did you guys follow the instructions? My second dd is 1 now, and so far, they have lasted through both kids, which would be over 3 years.
We have one cabinet that has plastic stuff in it they can play with, so they are less attracted to the others.
Other than that, and what the pp suggested, I would just take all the harmful stuff and put it where your baby can't reach.
