What should pregnant moms pack in their hospital bags?

Hi moms!

I'm Melisa and I write about pregnancy in Daily Buzz -- I'm writing a post on hospital bag essentials and, since you've been there, I'd love your input! What were things you took and found to be helpful? Or things looking back you wish you had taken? Not just the basics, like clothes for the baby and nursing pads, but any surprising things? Thanks for sharing with and helping other moms-to-be!

  • My advise is not to over pack. I wasn't sure, so had too much. Jammies aren't necessary. I'd recommend using the hospital ones since you'll be bleeding so much and don't want to ruin them. Food for hubby is nice if it's a long labor. Socks or slippers are good. an outfit for baby and a blanket. One nurse gave us a blanket to use for the dog to get him used to her smell, but the other had a fit about me using one to take her home. Just depends on the nurse. Hosp will give you all the baby supplies you will need.

  • Hair doo-dads to scrape your hair back with.
    LIP BALM!!!

(for me, I had heartburn like a mo-fo during labor, so I had my MIL bring me a massive bottle of tums so I didn't pay $5 per antacid in the hospital).

I also recommend buying some REALLY comfy jammies with button-up tops that you won't mind throwing away. Buy them in your Six-Month pregnancy size. I had a ton of visitors and wouldn't have wanted to greet them in a hospital gown, but I did have to toss the 3 pairs of jammies I brought with me.
