  • I was told by a Doula (sp?) when I was pregnant that any stimulation at all is going to help the progesteron get flowing which is what helps get your labor moving! You might be right mamapyratekk...but it can't hurt to try! I was mortified to do it so I know how you feel. But just take a bath or sit under a blanket and use the palm of your hand or whatever to stimulate them. I hope that helps! It seemed to work for me. And if you really don't want to do it...I'm sure the man in your life would be more than happy to help ;)

  • The best way to find out is honestly to talk to your doctor about it. I know there is a mom on here who knows the exact way to do it, so hopefully she'll see this question.

  • Ok not quite sure how stimulating you nipples will enduce labor but if you are determined to deliver just talk to your doctor. My husband took me swimming in the waves of boats, hiking, driving over bumpy roads. /This didn't work for me but sometimes it does. Talk to your doctor about him inducing labor. If you are far enough along he will give you the drug that will do it. Warning: The drug increases the labor pains.

  • "Ok not quite sure how stimulating you nipples will enduce labor"

Nipple stimulation is one of the few things that is *proven* to induce labor if done correctly. Some doctors will even perform this on you in the office to help get labor going or teach you how to do it at home. It's also the reason women are advised to not try and pump colostrum with a breastpump, as it can induce early labor.

  • From what I've read, nipple stimulation won't be very helpful. You'd have to play with them all day long in order to get anything major going.

I'd just wait it out, and let baby come on his/her own time. Probably not what you want to hear, but baby will come out when good and ready:)

  • "You'd have to play with them all day long in order to get anything major going."

It's a lot different than just playing with them. Nipple stimulation is a very specific set of actions that can induce labor. It is one of the few things a doctor will actually *suggest* to get labor going and as I said in a previous comment, some will even perform it for you in office to show you the correct way to do it. It's not as if you just sit there tweaking them while you're on the computer or something, it's much much more than that.

Again to the OP: Contact your doctor, they can tell you the most effective techniques to get this done. Better yet, have them see you and show you the proper ways.
