# Can I lose weight without exercising?

I want to lose weight but NEVER have time to exercise (my kid is in the hospital, has been for 2 months) i heard that you need so many calories for when your resting(resting metabolic rate) If i only had that many calories or less would that help in losing the weight? Can any one explain how the resting metabolic rate works? The formula I have to find yours is this: YOUR WEIGHT IN POUNDS x 4.3 + 655 ADD YOUR HEIGHT IN INCHES x 4.7 = TOTAL IT, SUBTRACT YOUR AGE x 4.7

Mine would be:
130 x 4.3= 559
+ 655
= 1214
+272.6
= 1486.6
-103.4

• I wouldn't worry about your resting metabolic rate. Just buy a good calorie counter at a book store and a blank notebook. Every day, measure, weigh and count everything you eat and write the caloires down. Make sure you stay under 1200 calories. 1200 calories is a standard weight reduction diet. Obviously make sure the 1200 calories is made up of healthy balanced foods spaced throughout the day.

Trust me, if you stick to 1200, you'll lose weight whether you exercise or not. If you can't exercise, do things like taking the hospital stairs instead of the elevator, park your car farther away, walk around the halls, etc.. You can always sneak in exercise moments and it too will help.

• you really need to speak with a dietitian, since there is more to a calorie expenditure (which is what you've probably found online). What I can say about food intake is that your body needs a certain amount to keep at a healthy metabolism. Say someone needs 2000 calories, and is only taking in 1000. This person is constantly in a catabolic state, and his body is going to convert food into fat because it's not getting enough.

By the way, I would be 100% sure that you need more than 1400 calories a day.

• Try livestrong.com. It has a food journal that is great. You enter in your current weight, the number of lbs you want to lose per week as well as your current daily activity level. The website does the rest. It calculates the number of calories that you can consume on a daily basis in order to lose weight. I have lost 16 lbs (been using it since mid September). • There are 3500 calories in a lb. If you eat less you will lose weight. If you eat less and do exercises you will lose faster and look better because you make muscle and muscle burns fat at a faster rate. IF you exercise to lose you may seem like you don't lose much because muscle weighs more than fat but yo'll look better sculpted.

• Weigh Down Workshop is all about eating within the guidelines of hunger and fullness. No counting calories, no exercise required, etc. It's Bible-based logic, so it can be off-putting for some people. But there's free resources on their website and it's definitely working for me!
