  • We have our cat boxes in the extra bathroom...and to make it accessable to the cats but NOT the dogs, we put up a baby gate. I haven't had a problem since!

  • I don't think that the hooded litter box is the answer. I have one and every time my in-laws come over with their dog he goes straight for the litter box. I swear I almost gag every time. I have heard that it is some kind of deficiency in the dogs diet that makes them do it, but I don't know what the deficiency is.

  • Get a hooded cat litter box, turn it around to face the wall or the corner. The cat can get in but the dog can't . Works for mine! lol

  • hooded litter boxes are good. there is also one that the cat walks into and it has a sort of tunnel towards the back so that even if the dog pokes his head in, he can't get around the tunnel (unless it's a small dog). they're expensive, though.

  • Thats so funny I was going to ask the same thing. My girlfriends and I were wondering why they do it too. Glad to know it's just not us! Knowing my dog she would get the hooded litter box stuck on her head. But if someone out there really knows why they do this, please let us know! Thanks

  • They call it a "doggie tootsie roll" My boxer was always trying to sneak the cat's poo. We ended up having to get rid of the cat but before we did, we taught the dog to stay out of the laundry room. My parents have two cats and a boxer and he sometimes tries to get into the litter boxes but we just keep correcting them and soon enough they get the point.

  • The hooded box is a great solution to the problem. I had this problem w/ my dog before it was turned to face the wall in my old house. (This also will help keep litter in one area.) Though she still tried to get those "yummy treats" always sniffing @ the box. Like doglovergranny said face the opening twds the wall w/ enough room for the cat and the dog (if a lg one) wont be able to get in there. Unless they're really determined.
The reason they eat the cat feces is there is Vit. A in the cat food, it is passed in the feces making a tasty treat for the dogs. Dog food contains low levels of Vit. A b/c too high amounts can make your dog sick. Regardless, eating cat feces can make them sick also.
I put a chain on my laundry room door to keep my dog and kids out of the cat box. I don't have the room in there to turn the box around and have the kitty get to it.
