At what age do most babies start crawling?

He also sat up unaided at 4 months and is starting to pull himself up to the standing position by holding on to things.

  • There is no standard age for crawling. Some children never do bother with it. Some crawl "early." Some crawl "late." Some fall in love with crawling and delay walking. Some crawl young and walk young. I'm not sure what the current status is, but I know 6 years ago, the AAP didn't consider crawling a measurable milestone because of the wide variance and, in some cases, the lack of crawling.

  • Oh boy are you in trouble! LOL! 5 months can be a typical age to crawl. Mine waited until 7 or 8 months, but that's normal too. As for pulling up already, I bet he's going to be an early walker! Mine didn't pull up until almost 9 months I think!

  • my daughter was an early crawler. by 4 months she could sit alone. and by 5 she was crawling. the very next day after starting to crawl she was crawling up stairs. scared the you know what outa me. but on the other hand my son did not crawl till like 8 months. it veries with each child. but i think anywhere from 5 moths to 9 months is the "norm".

  • Sounds like the early side of normal, but prepare for walking now! Early crawlers tend to be early walkers too...

  • uh oh, get ready, lol. my daughter is almost 4 months, and I'm thinking she might be a quick one. She's starting to try to pull herself into a sitting position. My son was able to sit up unassisted when he was almost 6 months old, was standing alone at 9 months and walking at 10 months. Your little guy is just ready to go!

  • My daughter is 6 months old and just started crawling a few weeks ago, but she does not sit unassisted yet (almost!) and although she loves to stand, she can't pull herself up yet onto things.

  • My daughter is 5 months and is crawling as well. She can sit up too. I think it is different for every child.
