  • I've been breastfeeding for 5mos and I've never had a problem with constipation. Are you feeding the baby rice cereal? I heard someone mention in an early post that a suppository called butt bullet works. I'm sure your doc has plenty of remedies call them, its a simple thing to adress over the phone.

  • alot of moms think that lack of pooping is constipation.. so is your babies poops globby? or firm? if so, then that is constipation.. does your baby get enough fiber in their daily diet? my son is 4 months old, soon to be 5, and he's been on rice cereal for about a month, and just started on banana baby food, and wow, just in one day he's happier and his poops are alot better and he doesnt seem to be having trouble, also, do you give your baby any plain water? You said your baby is a year old, a bit of water goes along ways.. we give our son about an ounce a day, he's breastfed, and I changed my diet to non dairy, because he is allergic to cow proteins...

  • Make sure your baby is getting enough water. At a year old my DD was already drinking a lot of water and I know in her case if she didn't get enough water she would have very dry hard little pellet like stool and she wouldn't be a happy camper as she worked them out.

  • old folk remedies include graham crackers, molasses, and marshmallows.  My sister in law and mother in law both swear by them.

  • Hydration is the key! I don't know if your child is drinking any juice but I was told by my pediatrician to give Apple or Pear Juice to help. Diluted prune juice is good to but very minimal since it has a somewhat of an "explosive" result at times. Now that my son is almost 2 I feed him grapes daily to keep him on track...one dose of Tylenol means instant constipation for him!!! Good luck...a constipated baby is absolutely no fun for either of you :(
