How long after a miscarriage can you begin trying to conceive?

I was around 5 weeks along..and i had some major cramps and bleeding. I have two healthy kids and never had any problems with pregnancy before. Do my chances of having another miscarriage go up now that ive had one?

  • You need to let your body heal, I know you had other pregnancies with no problems but your body needs to recooperiate. I had a miscarriage and tried very soon and lost it. I would wait at least a year. If you want to try sooner talk to your OB to get suggestions.

  • I wouldnt say a year, goodness.... I didn't wait a year to get pregnant after birth. Most OB's say a couple months is safe

  • a year might be a bit too long. my mother miscarried... and was pregnant again the following month (with my brother).

When I miscarried, I waited a few months (my cycles got messed up as well).

  • I had a miscarriage last year (my first) and I had a healthy baby boy a year later. My son is now six months old... I was told that when you miscarry its because natural selection chooses to abort a baby that couldn't make it outside the womb. Don't feel bad. I was told to wait at least six months...

  • First of all, my sincerest apologies.

I have 3 children and also had 5 miscarriages. I know it's tough to go through. I would not "try" for a few months (2-3) and then if it happens, it does. Give yourself time to heal both physically and mentally. You may have trouble in the future, but much of it is giving yourself time to process what happened and how to feel about it. Good luck, hun!

  • I have had 2 miscarriages. My OB told me I could start TTC again whenever I felt ready. After miscarriage number 1 it took me a year to concieve and that pregnancy resulted in my son. After miscarriage number 2 I got pregnant the very next month and so far so good with this pregnancy and I am just about 33 weeks along.
