Do you have to establish paternity before receiving child support?

The reason I ask is because my husband has been paying for a child that we just recently found wasn't his.

  • Yes, I believe it should be done and in my husband's case, it WAS done before he was ordered to pay. There's lots of unfaithful women out there!

  • Yes. I agree that he should not pay support unless he wants to and plans on being the "father" figure for that child. If he has a bond with that child I would be careful about severing ties because of blood or not blood. This will be an emotional loss for all involved.

  • Yes it should be established beforehand, that way there is no confusion in the long run. Its really unfair for him to pay for someone elses child unless he wants too, thats a different story.

  • Yes and I also think that a father should have to get a DNA test before he sees the kid. Because its real convenient to say that you want to see the child but, you don't want to have to pay for it until you get a DNA test. It took 6 months for my son's biofather to take a DNA test.

  • dna testing is required unless the father is married to her or he doesn't contest being the father. Tell him to file for a refund of all money he's sent to her. She has to return it or the bio father has to return it. Either way you have money due you.
