What can you do to prepare for natural childbirth?

So I have my heart set on a natural childbirth and am using a certified nurse midwife. I've been reading birth books and have been following the suggestions offered about labor preparation (sitting cross legged frequently, kegels, exercising 3-4 times a week, pelvic tilts, sitting on a yoga ball). Have any other moms out there been doing things to prepare for labor/birth?

  • I did with both my girls and when it came time it was as easy as it gets. No drugs and still did very well. Up here we have those jacuzzi type tubs in the labor rooms and that's what saved me from my contractions that were ALL in my back.

  • I am going to attempt it w/o drugs but, I have to deliver in a hospital w/ my regular doctor because I am high risk.

  • I had both of my children naturally- meaning no drugs- 20 years ago. I admire you using a midwife, but I would use a doctor and have my baby in a hospital. Reason being- we have no idea what can happen at anytime and most hospitals are equipped to handle emergency situations. I did A LOT of walking and my labor was hard, but I managed fine. My only real piece of advice is to really focus the pain somewhere else and breath. Also have someone with you who has gone through this type of birthing because they will most likely be straight with you and keep all annoying people out of your room because they will make everything worse. :0)
