Can having sex induce labor?

I am ready to have my baby...he is measuring large, and I want him to come out within the next week and a half - two weeks...will sex induce my labor? Will he come out early?

  • Semen will help your cervix ripen and prepare you for labor, and yes orgasming can help bring contractions, but if it is not time nothing is going to make that baby come out.

  • It's the semen that induces labor, not the sex itsself.

  • semen has prostaglandins in it that thins the cervix. So yes it could. Also evening primrose oil does the same thing. The liquid gels can be found at walmart you bust a pill and insert it in your vagina usually at night before bed. So if you had sex every morning and used the primrose oil before bed you'd thin out pretty fast but it could also take weeks because even hospital done inductions fail sometimes if the baby really doesn't want to come out. I was in the hospital with another girl on the same cytotec induction schedule as me. I had a baby by 7:45 that night in the moring she went home no baby. Ran into her last last year. We were induced Dec 21 she had to go back and delivered the 27th.

  • Everyone says its the semen and that my be true. But not for me. I had sex (not trying to induce labor) at 34wks and WHILE we were doing the deed my water broke. 60+hours later i was on the table getting a c-sec and only dilated to a 3.

  • Don't always trust the measurements. Most of the time they are just guesses. As everyone else said, semen can soften and prep the cervix. It does not necessarily induce labor. Babies just come when they are ready.
