Is there hypoallergenic cat litter?

Lately when we put fresh cat litter in the litter box the odor cuts off my breathing. My husband changes it so I don`t breathe in the dust, but the odor carries and it feels like someone is putting something over my face. Has anyone experienced this, and do you have any suggestions for a good cat litter?

  • Try a non-gravel litter. They make litter out of all kinds of things, like cedar, newspaper, and plastic. Shop around and try out some different products. I really liked the 100% cedar litter.

  • We use Tidy Cats for Multiple Cats even though we only have one cat. His litter box is a covered one with filters on top and the litter is sifted daily. The whole box gets scrubbed down weekly and fresh litter put in.
I also bought a Citrus Magic Odor Absorber to place behind the cat litter box. It doesn't send a fragrance out into the room, but it does absorb the gross odors (really works!).
I would love to buy the all natural cat litters, but they are really expensive. Tidy Cats is a low dust litter and works very well. We've tried many and found this to be the best for our cat and our home.
