  • we never pay for animals. We adopt out of our local shelter. After our much beloved black lab died (16 yrs old0 we haven't got a new animal. Our cat died 3 months before the dog (she was 19) we just don't have the heart right now..it's tough to lose a member of the family. Adoption fees at our shelter average $45.

  • I think pets are over rated. I got my cat off of freecycle and he is so smart. My mom always pays way too much for her dogs, and every single one of them was stupid. The one she has now is one of the dumbest by far! There are too many pets that people give away, why pay so much?

  • My dog was free. He's a Golden Retriever/Samoyed mix. He was an "oops puppy" when this lady's show dog and the neighbor dog got busy. She was going to take the puppies to the pound b/c she didn't want to deal with "mutts". So I got my Lucky dog & he's the best friend EVER!

  • I have a hard time paying that much for a pet. We always adopt from shelters and pay the for the adoption fee that helps feed and house the animals there.

  • i've never paid for a pet. there are too many great pets [yes, many are purebred] in shelters and on streets and in newspapers, freecycle, craigslist. with the housing market like it is, more flawless pets are going into shelters than ever before because their owners can't take them along when the house is foreclosed on. my family has a mini pincher that was abandoned in his neighborhood. please, everyone, look into helping animals that need it first.

  • I paid $250 for my pure bred sheltie (border collie) He is a rare color and I adopted him from a rescue organization that had busted a shelite puppy farm in our area. He already had his shots, neutered and came with a ton of coupons for petco, so $250 was well worth it when you consider what we got. Had I found him elsewhere he could have been around $1000.

  • I paid 350$ for my Min Pin with his papers and we got our doxie/terrier from a rescue for 250$. I personally wouldn't spend over 500$ for a dog but I don't mind those who do. I just don't have that kind of money to throw around! :)
