Are cravings most severe during the first trimester?

My pregnancy book "What to Expect while Expecting" says that pregnancy cravings are more frequent and severe in the first trimester. I have to disagree. My cravings really kicked in during my third trimester, they get so bad that if I don't fulfill them that I want to rip my hair out to feel pain. (Have not yet)

Ugh... If you experienced strong cravings, when did it happen for you?

  • What to Expect is ghey LOL! Not really...but a lot of what it says didn't happen to me or anyone else that I know.

My cravings were the worst in the second trimester. I'd lay awake at night wanting a cheeseburger O.o

  • Middle of my second trimester is when they kicked in and seems to be still going in the third. Didnt really have "cravings" in my first.

  • i have found that i'm most hungry in the third trimester like i want to eat the whole kitchen... i disagree with the book a lot like they say ur most tired in the first trimester but i was tired in the 2nd when they said i would feel great. the book is only a guideline anyway. they leave a lot of stuff out. like it says that when the baby drops u will feel more bladder pressure, which is true but it completely left out and never mentioned the pelvic pressure which is so way annoying... the book is supposed to be written by a ob/gyn who has had kids herself but maybe she just left some stuff out cuz she felt like it i dont know..

  • Every pregnancy is different...with my first I had cravings basically from day one...including PICA cravings...that is another story. lol

This time around I hate the thought of all food and can't even imagine having cravings right now...I'm only in my first trimester, so I know things could I'll just have to see.

You are right that What to Expect When You Are Expecting sometiimes says you will be having symptoms that you don't have, etc. But you have to remember that it's only a guideline for mothers who have no experience with pregnancy and just NEED information! Sometimes the book isn't perfect, but it is quite helpful in a lot of areas. I'm happy to have read it my first pregnancy. =)
