Which dog breed is good with toddlers?

We want to get a puppy for christmas but we aren't quite sure what kind. My dd is 13 months and has been around animals plenty so she is pretty well behaved with them. We live in an apartment so we're looking for something on the smaller side. We have a little gated area outside and I plan on walking the dog daily. If you have any reccomendations let me know!!
THANKS!

  • I'd get a Border Collie, or Australian Shepherd.

  • I would go with a shetland sheepdog (border collie). I had one when my girls were little and they are great. Very protective of the kids and a very smart dog. Also, very easy to house break.

  • I'm a little biased towards great pyrenees but I SWEAR to you they are gentle giants. We have a pyrenees mix who is almost 2 and is the most sweetest dog! She is the only dog I've ever had that was gentle towards people (including babies) AND other animals!

  • Smaller dogs can be more inpatient with children. They are more known to nip at kids (not all small dogs, but many of them do). Generally, the larger the dog is . . . the better it will be with kids. Large dogs are able to handle kids better and they are more patient. I had a St. Bernard that was soooooo good with kids!

  • standard poodle by far they can live in apartments, they don't require a lot of exercise like the border collie would, they are the second smartest dogs. they are super loyal, smart, gentle, loving and can be guard dogs as well with training. best thing to do is go online and put dog breeds your interested in and read up on what they will live in best and if thay are good with children, energy level and health etc. like the akc website. of course a mix dog is always great cause they won't have much if any breed traits that will get dogs that are inpatient have health issues etc. the standard poodle have been used by the navy seals. i love them. best dog hands down. my hubby didn't think much of them till he got to know my ella. he is impressed.
