Will I be put on bed rest if I'm having contractions?

Like i said in my other question i was having contractions and they said im barely dilated a centimeter

so they gave me a shot to stop the contractions...

my question is
Does your doctor usually put you on bedrest if you are having contractions and are already starting to dilate when you are 32 weeks???

what are the chances of being put on bedrest?

  • Well, I was 33 weeks and at Labor and Delivery (through the ER) and they said I was beginning actual labor with the contractions...they gave the shot and my Obgyn Doc ordered me on bed rest. I'm surprised they didn't do that with you.

  • I was in preterm labor from 17 weeks and was never put on bedrest. At 31 weeks I was thinning and dilating and I was not put on bedrest.

  • most of the time... yes. they would put you on bed rest and tell you to keep your stress levels down. Being dilated this early isnt that big of a deal. you can be at 1 cent. for weeks and weeks... they would be more worried about you already having contractions. If you continue to have contractions... your dr. will most likely put you on bed rest. GL

  • I'm 36 weeks and have been dilated to a 1 for 3weeks and they havent put me on bed rest yet. Wish they would LOL then I would have an excuse to be in bed all day. But like a PP said they would be more concerned if the contractions continued then the dilation. If you continue to have contractions and have to keep going to get shots then I would think they would. I am wondering myself why they didnt tell at least to stop working.

  • I also walked to and from work every day during my pregnancy, but I am not sure that my doctor knew that. I wondered if they were going to put me on bedrest. I was told when I delivered that if I got pregnant again, I would be put on modified bed rest for the entire pregnancy.

  • they shouldn't give you more than one shot....they usually give medication after the shot to make sure the contractions stay under control....yeah, i'm sorry they didn't give you proper treatment...you can go to the er if you're still having contractions at least 2-4 minutes apart....bed rest is for people who are starting active labor (contractions that will make you dialate) - that's what happened to me...they stopped it before it got any further...and actually, my baby went up after that, didn't have any pressure on cervix, went from 1cm to not dialated at all... -2 station to -3... that's why I needed help starting my labor at 40.5 weeks.

  • I have been 1cm dialated for at least the last 5 wks. Though, I haven't been checked in nearly two weeks. I am still working full-time with two small girls. I was on bedrest for a week by the midwife, but my OB thought it ok to go back to work (darn him) I am nothing but miserable at work, with contractions now and again.
