  • My mother bakes cinnamon rolls every yr, from my grandma' recipe. She brings them down the night before, and I get up Christmas morning and bake them. We eat them for breakfast before we open gifts. Or rather, I eat them, and the boys let them sit on their plates until I give in and let them open presents first. lol And on Christmas Eve, we buy the Hickory Farms Summer Sausage, cut it up and have it with cheese and crackers for dinner, since we'll be eating such a big, heavy meal the next day.

  • The kids love to have "sleepouts" under the tree on the nights leading up to Christmas. They fall asleep looking up through the branches at the twinkling lights and favorite ornaments. They look like little angels, and are easily the best gifts under my tree!

  • My family gets together on new years eve and makes tamales. This is the only time we make them. My grandma used to make them and we want to carry on her tradition. I love the family time and it is nice to hear stories from my aunt about our grandma.

  • I love that in my family, all the grandparents/great grandparents come around to the houses with small children to watch them open their presents Christmas morning. I call around as soon as my daughter wakes up, let her open her stocking (to keep her from going crazy with the wait! lol) and then we make cinnamon rolls and coffee for the grandparents to have with us when they get there.

I didn't think about it before, but every year I've bought my daughter new christmas PJs too.

  • We do this exact same thing, which is what my Grammy did with us growing up!!!

Another tradition DH and I do is buy meaningful ornament(s) every year to add to the tree.  Some are personalized with names and the year, some have just the year, one is a New Home ornament for when we bought our first house that year, we have several ornaments celebrating our children, ornaments that my DH brought over from Iraq, and our tree is more memorable and individualized for our family every year we put our tree up!
