What can you do if your child is afraid to get a haircut?

I've been trying ALL morning to cut his hair! We were gonna get it done at the salon yesterday but he wouldn't sit in the chair to let her do it so I decided to do it at home like I normally do. He wont let me do it at all. Now we're both frustrated and he only has the very top of it done. I usually just shave it. HELP!!!

  • Do you use an electric shaver? He may hate the feel of it. My hairdresser has only used one twice on the back of my neck and I really hated it. Other than that just be matter of fact about it, set him in a chair with the TV on.

  • I have used the electric shaver before. He didn't make too much of a fuss before. It's just all of a sudden. So I decided to just use scissors this time but he wouldn't even let me do that. TV wasn't working for us this time either.

  • My son is 2 and he has always disliked haircuts. At the salon he has to sit in my lap and the one I went to tryed to distract him by blowing bubbles. We just for the first time tryed to shave his head with the electric shaver at home and he first saw me do my husband and dad first then he wanted to and when we started he moved around a bit but then we said Do you want m&m's and he said ya we said then let us cut his hair of course he is going to move around a little but you just have to work around that the best you can. We got him done and gave him his m&m's.

  • My son would not sit still to get his haircut at home, the first few times we made him sit in his highchair and color. Now that he is too big for the highchair, we took him to a barber. He went with my husband and my dad. He watched my dad get his hair cut, and then sat on his lap. He now loves it. He even jokes about when the hair fell on his nose.
I am so relieved that we found a solution, hopefully something will work for you.
