I want to learn to knit—where's a good place to start?

I want to learn to knit wool longies for my kids where is a good place to start and how will I know what size needles and what is the best yarn to practice with

  • Your craft stores usually will have a "Learning to..." series as kits. They come with the basic sized needles and easy to read patterns and stitches. I taught myself to knit and crochet with these kits. They're usually around $10.00 and not that bad. I prefer to crochet and do that more often, but I did first learn how to knit and made a few easy things with that.
