At what age should infants start walking?

My DS is 7.5 months old and already starting to stand on his own without holding on to anything. He crawls everywhere and can pull himself up on anything that's not moving. Today he was standing at his play table not holding on and took a step towards me before he fell. Could he really walk before 8 months old? How old was your baby when they started to walk?

  • My sons were doing what your child was doing at around the same age. They started walking with me holding their hands at around 10 and 11 months, and walked independently at 11 and 12 months.

My nephew didn't walk....he just started RUNNING at 9 months! Yours may end up doing the same! LOL

  • My oldest ds was 13 months old and my youngest ds was 11 months old. My mom says I was walking and potty trained by 9 months old so it's possible he's ready to start walking.

  • My daughter was a late one, she never crawled only scooted around on her butt to get to things and was she ever fast. She walked on her own finally at 16 months old. My son was pulling himself up around 8-9 months old and using a walker around that time. He walked on his own at 13 months.

  • my son was walking holding by 81/2 months but took a WHILE to let go -- about 11 months. His little sister just stood up held my hand and chased her bro and a friend at 9 months and was walking alone 2 weeks later.
