Is there any way to induce labor on bed rest?

Before I went onto bed rest, I was doing a lot of walking and having sex a lot to ready myself for labor and help my body dilate and all that good stuff... At my last prenatal I got admitted to the hospital because of really high BP, excessive water weight and excessive swelling, so now I'm on bedrest until further notice. But they did say I was dilated to 1 and 75% effaced (even though I know that doesn't mean much). But is there anything I can do to get myself dilated more and progress to labor while staying in bed?

  • honestly they will probably induce you soon. The first poster is right but it might just be easier and less awkward (thansgiving would neve rbe the same) to just wait it out. I was 2 cm dilated on a tuesday appointment went in for preterm labor on thursday and delivered by sunday so dont stick your nose up at that one cm it could be 6 by sunday ;P

  • why are they not inducing you? I think just relax and wait, there must be a reason they want you to not be in labor yet.

  • I'm full term, but they want me on bed rest until Friday at least (I'm guessing because it's Christmas, and they are either letting me have family time, or they don't want to work, lol idk). I have a check-up then, and if nothing is better, I will most likely be induced, or be kept on bedrest for another week. No idea yet. I would however like to go into labor naturally because I have heard pitocin makes labor a b*tch...

Turkey baster...hehe! Never thought of that!

  • Have you tried raspberry leaf tea? It works by making your uterus contract. It us meant to help tone the uterus, but if you're ready to have your baby (physically), it can help bring the real contractions along. They also say spicy food can help bring on labor. I know how it is avoiding pitocin; maybe one day this week, the nurses will walk in to find you jumping up and down on the bed! LOL =)
Good luck, mommy, sending some labor dust your way!!
