I breastfed my DD til she was 11 1/2 months. And I miss it. I am going to breastfeed any other children I have, and I want to breatfeed maybe til two. Does anyone know if this honestly hurts the childs development? And please no arguing, I know some people feel strongly about this, but I just want facts.

Quoting dtetz: It makes sense for a year to be the max brestfeeding limit. Thats when they tell you to switch from breastfed or formula to regular milk Who exactly is "they"? Because as far as I know, the AAP advocates nursing until AT LEAST 12 months of age and for as long after as is desired by both mother and child and the WHO reccomends nursing until at least 2 years old ... and the way I see it is why would you want to deprive your kid of cow milk LOL Deprive your child of cow's milk?? Do you realize how crazy that sounds? We are the only species in the world that regularly drinks another animals milk. The kids heave rest of their lived to drink regular old cow's milk - they only get the GOOD stuff for such a short time.

I mean really have you tasted your milk? Or formula?... its not to tasty. Actually I have tasted my own breastmilk. It's quite sweet and to a child's pallette woul be far superior to cow's milk. But you're right about formula - that stuff does taste nasty. And breaking your kid off at the terrible twos... yikes Good thing there's no reason to NEED to break them off at two years old, they can be nursed right through those terrible two's. And I think honestly that kids should start to use sippy cups when they are 6months so that by the time they a 1 they can use only a sippy cup... because sucking on the bottle can damage their pearly whites...
