  • I would just sit her down and tell personal experience. I started my period when I was 10, my mom was in the hospital cause of a accident and that left my dad to give me the take. I basically got a thing of pads handed to me and a "Here, put this on your underwear for a week". Any talk you give her will be better than that ;-D.

  • try going on line with her to beingagirl.com It gives you a lot of information and has a thing where it will send her a kit that has her first pad, deoderant and a little booklet. encourage her to keep extra in her back pack and go over who she can talk to if she starts while ur not around. also encourage her not to be ashamed and to come to you with any questions. i had to do this with my two younger sisters because my mom wasn't really around. but remember to explain to her what this means, because soon after you'll have to have the sex talk. good luck.

  • My dd is noly 2 but I want to have a party for her when she gets older. Not necessarily when she starts her cycle but around the time that she is 11-12. I plan on taking her to buy bras, looking at books with her about the body and about babies, telling her what happened to me and what will happen to her, and then having an all girls (Grandma, aunts, cousins mostly) sleep over. Celebrating her growing up...

  • Just tell her about your self. I think that a mom should teach her daughter what she needs to know so that someone eles doesn't. They (girls) act like that not something they need to know but they do listen.

  • I had to have the talkt with my daughter when she came to me when she was only 8 with pubic hair she thought was dirt she couldn't wash off. Shes 10 now and, books and online websites are not going to substitute for mom and thats what she needs. Tell her how you were told and when you started and how you felt.

  • "The Care and Keeping of You" by American Girl. It talks about what is happening to her body and how to care for her herself. It doesn't talk about sex so it won't conflict with anything you want to tell her.
