At what age did you first try peanut products with your toddler?

our DD was adopted, and we don't know her biological family medical history or food allergy history. I was wondering how old your little one's were when you first started peanut products?! did they have a problem?

  • The recommendation is to wait until age 2 .
Personally in our family there is no history of allergies and we began around 12 months.

  • my daughter had her first peanutbutter cookie last week. she is almost 18months old. she had no problems with it at all, even though her daddy is allergic to peanuts. She didnt like the taste though. ;)

  • i've always been told by my pedi. at about 12 mo. but i started them when they were btw 8 and 9 mo. no problem and the oldest is just over 2. not knowing the history i'd wait and ask what your pedi. would suggest. i know it's not before 12 mo. though.

  • My daughters are also adopted. We waited until they were 2yrs old because our pediatrician recommended waiting since we didn't know the family history.

  • Since you dont know the family history I would wait until she's at least two. My sons father and I have no family history of any food allergies. I gave my son peanutbutter at 18 months, the first few times he did fine. The fourth his heart stopped. I'm not trying to scare you I just want you to be aware. Even if everything goes okay the first few times doesnt necessarily mean that she isn't allergic. IMO I would wait as long as you can, at least until two maybe three.
