Can I throw my own baby shower?

I never had one with my daughter she is 5 years old. I bought everything for her myself. I have nothing from when she was a baby any ways. Im having a boy so I would need new stuff anyways

  • I think it's just fine. Also, if your SO/DH has friends then they can throw him a Diaper Party for guys only. We did that for one of my son's friends....we had a grill out and they all brought diapers. They had fun.

  • I've thought about it myself! I ended up asking a friend to do it, but I wouldn't worry too much about what people think about it.

  • I think so. The idea is for you to be honored, not to get gifts! I wouldn't go to one hosted by the Mommy-to-Be, it seems really greedy. Keep in mind that people don't necessarily bring you the things you want or feel you need, anyway...even if you register!

  • We are buying a house so I thought it would be a great idea to do a house warming/baby shower. I figured it was a great way to kill 2 birds with one stone!

  • Honestly, it does seem tacky to me. I think by asking this question you have doubts and think it might be. Its a great thing if someone wants to throw one, but throwing one for yourself does seem greedy.

You will still get plenty of stuff after the baby is born, even if there isn't a shower beforehand. If nothing else, throw a 'Welcome Baby' party - people are bound to bring gifts.

  • Yes, it is tacky. I personally would never attend a shower a buy a shower gift for someone throwing her own shower, or having a shower for a second baby. But to each her own. It's just a plea for gifts and it's very rude, I feel. I agree that after the baby is born people will send gifts. People don't like being pressured into buying gifts.
