What is a good Italian recipe?

I want to make the guy that I'm dating dinner. His favorite is Italian and beef. I want to make something that will really impress him, not just spagetti. Anyone know of something really good, thats Italian with beef in it?

  • Well are you looking for a pasta dish with beef or a beef dish?

  • Either/or. Just an Italian dish with beef, whether or not beef is the primary ingredient doesn't matter to me.

  • One of the greatest ways to do beef with Italian flair is to make braciola (flank steak wrapped around bread crumbs and cheese) with Sunday Gravy (Italian tomato sauce, with beef and pork). If you want something a little simpler but similar, try making a good sauce with spaghetti and serve with slices of beef tenderloin that you seasoned with oregano and basil.

  • I love doing baked spaghetti and meatballs. It's easy enough, is completly filling and gives the element of taking more effort than it did. make spaghetti and meatballs as you would normally prepare them. Place pasta in a a casserole and combine with ricotta. (ricotta should be premixed with parsley, garlic, salt and peper and an egg) Strategically place meatballs around the pan and cover in sauce. Cover with mozzarella and bake. There's also alwyas veal parmigana, a meat and cheese lasagna, the deliscious sound ing the PP mentioned, baked ziti made with meat sauce. I personally enjoy a white sauce over pasta and some steak on the side.

  • I love making manicotti with crepes instead of pasta. It's traditional in the local italian area and it is so much lighter than pasta!
If you are afraid to make crepes, I know wegmans sells high quality premade ones that work well in a pinch.
IF you want my recipe, i will be happy to give it to you. if not, most are very good and you would simply wrap the filling like a burrito and lay seam side down in a pan.
Another good trick is to beat the egg whites to stiff peaks prior to mixing the ricotta filling. you would mix the yolks, mozerella and seasoning and then fold in the white to create a gorgeous dish. I learned it from my MIL.
