  • Yes we had dogs before the kids. It's not that they act out (like a child) they just plain hate the kids. I am always on the look out to make sure the twins arent doing anything to make them want to bite. Makes me nervous. I wonder if the Dog Whisperer could give a good solution to your problem?

  • I had two dogs before Tyler. One, never had a problem with him, to this day. Three kids later, he's still a sweetie. The other dog, though, went ape. started peeing everywhere, chewing stuff, it got so bad that we had to give him away :(

  • Have you tried giving the dog chew toys, treats, or a kong. The kongs work with my dog I fill them with PB or cheese whiz and it keeps them busy for hours.

  • I had the same problem as tc474. It got so bad the dog was trying to get between us and the baby - we had to get rid of her before she escallated.

  • my brother got rid of their dog for this reason. THe vet warned tham that dogs that behave this way are more prone to attack children in the home w/o provocation

  • We had 3 dogs before our first son and now only have 2. The one with the problems started to display agression(growing) when my son would crawl by him, that was all it took and he was out the door to a family with no young kids. Good Luck but please remember even seemingly well behaved dogs can snap at any moment, never leave the kids and dogs alone. I have 2 dogs I love very much..I dont think they would hurt my son but I refuse to take that chance, they are never left alone together.

  • one thing to remember is that your dogs were your kids before you had kids, and they feel left out just like an older sibling would. give them plenty of attention and RULES "like a child" and they will be better. Ceasar would say to "be a pack leader" which means to let that dog know YOU are the boss. be calm, stand up tall and hold your child in your arms while giving attention to the dog. the dog will associate you with the baby and know they dont mess with your baby.
