My high school freshman had her first detention yesterday, during her lunch period. She has had two tardies to the same class this semester. Oddly, the school did not notify us.
For now, I think that the detention is punishment enough, though I am curious about how others handle this.

I wouldnt do anything but state that I hope in the future they get to class on time.
At my sons' high school, students are given 4 minutes to get from one class to the next. It's a small hs with 1000 students, so they have more than enough time. If either son has to stay behind to talk to a teacher, he gets a late pass. At a nearby high school, they have 4000 students, so the 4 minutes sometimes isn't enough to get from one wing of the building to the others.
Have you asked your daughter why she's been late? Sometimes kids don't have classes together and they stop to chat in the hallway, or forget something in their locker and go back. If it were my kids, I wouldn't punish them further, but I, too, would insist they get to class on time.
