Do you let your teen(s) keep like a summer or part-time job? My youngest is 15, and she has a job lined up where she'll be helping at a BBQ place in town this summer, and maybe even after school during the year. I let my oldest work for a year when she was 16 because she wanted a car, and I could only afford to pay for half.
My dd has been looking for a job, unfortunately most places want some one who is 18, she is 16.
ALL my kids wanted jobs by the time they were 13/14 and some sooner but it is really really hard to find jobs around here.
My 15 yr old son fixes kids and adults bikes in town for money
Our 16 1/2 yr old daughter who moved to florida is looking but doesnt have a job.
Our 18 yr old daughter is shift leader at Dunkin Donuts working full time.
Her 19 yr old boyfriend is working at Dunkin Donuts and at American Eagle.
Our 21 yr old daughter is the fulltime cake decorator at walmart
Her 21 yr old boyfriend is the full time assistant manager of a gas station
The 18,19 and 21 yr old kids are going to college part time in the fall and keeping their jobs.
The 15 yr old does his thing all year around too.
I use "let" because I actually have some friends that won't let their kids work at all until they're out of high school, even in the summer. Mainly because of sports/activities that they do during school and in the summer.
Quoting lucky2Beeme:
Let? No I insist on summer jobs.
I know.We have many people in town tell me I shouldn't let or make my kids work. That their school and sports were enough. To which I totally disagree. My sons make honor roll and high honors.they play a sport every season some seasons two.they still have time to work and socialize.
The oldest son worked last summer as a dog washer on Saturdays. He wants to apply for a job at the grocery store once he gets back from his dad's house. He can walk there from school until he turns 16 and can drive. I will gladly let my kids work as long as it does not interfere with school and sports. He gets allowance to pay for gas and as long as he continues to do well in school we will pay for his car payment and insurance.
