My DS is turning 18 on Wednesday and I am clueless as to what to get for him other than money.  He is a shy kid, he isn't really into fashion.  He never really wants much.  I think that is why he is not motivated to get a job.  We told him we won't get him a car or help him get a car until he has a job but he doesn't even dirve many places.  I don't think he has driven anywhere in a week.  I feel like we should get him something memorable but have no idea what.  Any ideas?

Unfortunatly boys aren't into anything memorable LOL! Unless he is really into something special I would probably just go with gift cards to gas station, resturants, movies and then some cash. I did something like this for both my boys, made up a little basket with their favorite treats and stuck them inside.

What are his plans for next year? When my Feb bday kid is a senior, her bday present will likely be either something to help her celebrate her last bit of time with her high school friends, or something that she'll use in the fall at college. (but she'll likely also have a list of ideas). What does he say he would like?

What is he into? Think of accessories that you can get him for a hobbie he may have. Is there a hobby he's talked about starting? Maybe get him everything he needs to start it? Whenever I need to come up with gifts for my kids I think about what the like, or something they've shown an interest in and go from there.

Does he have an I POD or I PAD? Laptop? Not sure how much you want to spend but those would be great gifts and great for college too.

Thank you for the ideas. They are all great! He is going away to college in the fall, as for hobbies, he likes things that challeng him. He recently taught himself a bunch of crazy yo-yo tricks. We got him an off string yo-yo for Christmas and he can do some insane tricks with that too. But he is ready to move on to something new. He has stilts, he recently expressed intrest in a unicycle, you would think he wants to be a circus performer...lol. He is majoring in engineering though.

He has an Ipod, and my inlaws are buying him a laptop for a graduation gift. I thought about an Ipad though.

What a cool dude. Are you at all near Cary, NC? There's a Meetup.com group that's into juggling/stilts/unicycles, etc, called Jugglers of the Triangle. Here's their group description:

This is a group for any and all who enjoy juggling or want to learn to juggle. We also welcome those who use Poi, Devil Sticks, Diablo, Stilts, Unicycles or any thing of the sort. Our main focus is to meet fellow jugglers, get some much needed fresh air, help one another hone our skills and pick up some new ones in the process. Juggling is fun and can be very rewarding (it's a great feeling when that pattern you've been working on for weeks just falls right into place) The more advanced parts of juggling can certainly take lots of practice however the bare elements of juggling and the basic pattern are fairly easy to grasp, we encourage all those interested to just give it a shot.

How about a nice wallet. Fill it with gift cards to his favorite stores, restaurants. Those will come in handy when he goes off to college.

You could make it fun and put together a basket of things that he can do now that he is 18 maybe some scratchers and such.
